Breast Implants Plastic Surgery Options
There are many options today when it comes to breast augmentation surgery. It is important to understand that only you and your doctor can make these decisions. Lets look at a few of the options you will encounter. The size of the implant, and the shape. Most breast implants are round, but there are also anatomically shaped ones. The anatomical breast implants were designed for reconstruction surgery, but at times are used in general breast augmentation. There are also smooth implants and textured implants. There is not much of an option when it comes to choice on the medium that is inside the implant. Saline (saltwater solution filled) breast implants are today's standard. Silicone gel filled breast implants are only available to women participating in approved medical studies.
There are also options on where the breast augmentation incision will be placed. Your surgeon will take in account your body type and other factors to recommend one of four different incision locations. See figure below. There is Transaxillary which is an augmentation incision at the armpit area. The next is a Periareolar augmentation incision in a semicircle on the outer part of the areola. The next is an Inframammary augmentation incision on the bottom base of the breast. The last area of augmentation incision is the belly button, or umbilical augmentation.
Another decision to be made in breast augmentation surgery is the position of the breast implant. The breast implant can be placed under chest musculature or total outside (on top) of the chest musculature. See figure below. | |
